Very close to the Bay, Uthandi house is located on a linear plot of land surrounded by establishments on three sides. To maximize natural light and sea breeze, the built form has been developed as two freestanding volumes in the front and back, connected with a bridge.
The public spaces are located on the front half while the private spaces are placed on the back. The bridge is the circulation corridor that also houses the auxiliary services such as the lift shaft and the electrical shaft, while being a light filled cross over passage surrounded by courtyards and landscaping on either side.
The ground floor is designed in such a way that all the main spaces open out to landscaped courts on at least one side, while the upper floors look into terraces and balconies.
The top floors that contain the library, gym as well as the pool give expansive views of the sea. The architectural form is highlighted with elements such as a Koi fish pond right at he entrance that creates the illusion of a floating building, a full height glazing all around the staircase court that brings in natural light all through the day while the kinetic screen on the façade captures the light and breeze to flank the house with dramatic shade, shadow and sound.
